I’ve got a Tangled obsession. A Rapunzel party that just won’t end. Most of you who visit RecessionHome know this.
My daughter thinks I’m a crafting rock star, and that she is the reason. And, she really is. At least, for this! After giving my previous lanterns some serious thought, and many questions on WHY the Rapunzel Lanterns don’t seem to “look” like the ones from the movie, I started wondering the same thing. Why don’t they? I scrounged around in my craft supplies, and found yellow goldenrod paper, pink, and lavender cardstock, the glue gun, and reels of yellow ribbon — then set to work while the kids were watching a Netflix dog movie. This is the summer of the dog movies!!
Really? It’s because of the Sunburst. The sunburst is unique. It’s sweeping design is breath taking, and really — it’s Rapunzel’s Ah-Ha! moment — where she “sees the light with Flynn…” Sigh…
I also like the cylinder lanterns way better than the square ones. They cost a little more to ship, but it’s worth it.
So, without further ado, RecessionHome on Etsy now is creating Rapunzel Tangled Lanterns – in an array of shapes, sizes, and colors…
I also found the PERFECT solution to hanging them, and having them glow… from Michael’s — these little submersible LED lights that clip to the ribbon hangers. (Don’t submerse the lanterns! FYI!!
If you save your Michael’s coupon from the Sunday Paper, you can get them for up to 50% off — or you can order them along with your array of lanterns, from me… for a slightly added cost.
Here’s our latest lantern, now available:
Click on any of the pictures to be taken to RecessionHome’s Etsy store… send me a note if you have a special request. Rush orders are handled as best as possible…
Here’s to wishing you and yours a magical party!

Hi Ashley,
How did you keep your lanterns from collapsing in the middle?
That is the biggest challenge!
First, I try to use a stiff paper. At least 40lb
Then, I adjust the hanger, looping double through the holes, and then lengthening or shortening, until the lantern “hangs” right. It’s a balancing act, but eventually you can sort it out! I’m always improving these…
I have a tutorial I’m working on and will post soon. Good luck!
Ashely,Thanks so much for trying these out and posting! Very beautiful and just what i was looking for online.
